VA - Young Adults Ep (Young Adults)

It brings a tear to our eye when we discover yet another new quality label set up by fellow vinyl lovers. Truly. Stateside based Young Adults are next in line in our ever growing obsession with this type of operation and are far from disapointing. On the contrary actually - for their maiden voyage they're offering up everything we love and respect and showing off how things should be done in today's disposable world: proper artwork for the jacket, nice diverse sampler music-wise, 4 tracks to choose from, & limited wax release. Check, check, check and check.

On board first we're met with one of our favourite artists of the past 12 months - the elusive Suzanne Kraft, whose output is indeed sparse at best but what he does choose to release is masterfully special. 'Turning' from the Green Flash ep on Running Back was one of our 'best of' 2011 if I'm not mistaken (and if it wasn't then oops, my bad - it should have been). 'Jus U' displays exactly why we're so infatuated with Suzanne's output: its perfectly paced, snappy, luminous grooves go forth and back between bumpin' party vibes and being eclipsed by a killer vocal and top synths to smooth things out perfectly. Great producer who flies under the radar way more often than he should...undboubtedly the sleazy pick off the ep.

Sleazy darling TDRMC shares the A with 'Soothe My Mind', an infectious looped-up burner that showcases his trademark sound and doesn't disappoint in the least. Perfect stuff for getting the party going - a headnodder of the utmost value. Slap it over for a fantastically deep slice of loveliness by Urulu, a new name for us. Moody, dark and haunting as ever, 'Missing You' gives serious attention to this US based duo, indicating they're capable of rocking the deepness with the big boys. Killer tune. Finally, to churn out the final cut YA invites LOL Boys and Grown Folk on board for a rip who bring some seriously dark and deep gear - way too much for me though I'm afraid: too much squelch, acid and evil vocals for my liking.

Seriously great all-round package here that does a great job of keeping everyone in check genre-wise. Do yourself a favour and keep an eye out for upcoming fodder on Young Adults, such as the forthcoming 12" by yep, you guessed it Suzanne Kraft. Bag a copy of YA01 HERE.
